Charter School Program Grants
The goal of the ɬÀï·¬ CSP program is to expand the number of high-quality charter schools available to students across the state.
ɬÀï·¬ currently has two active competitive grants awarded by the United State Department of Education. Both grants were awarded for the purpose of assisting charter schools with initial planning and implementation.
Active Grants
ɬÀï·¬ Quality Charter Schools Program Grant (ESSA)
- Total Award from USDE $100,000,000
- Awarded in September 2020
- Grant Term – October 1, 2020 – September 30, 2025
ɬÀï·¬ Public Charter School Start-Up Grant Program (NCLB)
- Total Award from USDE $57,180,209
- 72 subgrantees
- Grant term – March 15, 2016 - March 14, 2023
- ɬÀï·¬ is in a no-cost extension to allow current subgrantees to expend all funds.
- No new awards will be made from this grant.
Applying for a Grant
Eligible Entities
New charter schools authorized by the commissioner
- Brand new charter schools apply through the application for charter and submit a supplemental non-competitive application.
- The supplemental non-competitive application for the charters authorized in Generation 26 (2022-2024 Charter School Program (CSP) Grant (Generation 26)) was due April 18, 2022.
- It may be found on the page (for the Program/Subject Area box, choose Charter Schools).
Replicating state-authorized charter schools (all three of the following documents are required)
- Additional Site Request Expansion Amendment, due March 1
- High-Quality Campus Designation (HQCD), due March 1
- The 2023-2025 Charter School Program (Subchapter C and D) grant application will become available on the page (for the Program/Subject Area box, choose Charter Schools) in late fall 2022.
New and replicating district-authorized charter schools
- The 2023-2025 Charter School Program (Subchapter C and D) grant application will become available on the page (for the Program/Subject Area box, choose Charter Schools) in late fall 2022.
Planning Grants
ɬÀï·¬ does not offer a pre-planning grant (i.e., before charter award). Grants are only available to awarded charter schools.
